There are three different genres of gospel. They are Transitional Gospel, Rural, and Contemporary. The different types ways of which gospel songs are written are through the ways of call response, speaking in tongue, and shouting.
Transitional gospel is the first genre that existed. It was originated in Little Rock Arkanas. Thomas A. Dorsey is known as the father of gospel music.
The second genre of gospel is rural, which is associated with call-and-response songs and work songs. Some of the well known artist form this period would be The Golden Gate Quartet and Blind Willie Johnson
And lastly the last one is the genre of contemporary, which is the genre that is still used today within gospel music. Some of the more well known artist that are the most well know during this one are Kirk Franklin, Marvin Sapp
