Gospel Music
Gospel is different because it talks about God in the lyrics. That’s that only reason why it can be in the music genre. Gospel is used to express the love and appreciation for God. Negro spirituals and Jubilee Quartets turned into Gospel. The two categories for gospel is traditional and transitional. Transitional gospel music has a holiness and Church of God in Christ (COGIC) style churches. This type of gospel music has ties to blues. This type of gospel was originated in Little Rock, Arkansas. Some songs that are transitional gospel songs are By and By, Amazing Grace, Let My People Go, The Best in Me, Heaven, Break Every Chain and other influential gospel songs. Transitional gospel music includes call and response and speaking in tongue. Traditional gospel started in the post civil rights movement.Some instruments that are used in gospel music are pianos, organs, drums, guitars, and tambourines. The Father of Gospel is Thomas A. Dorsey which is a blues singer. Some well known gospel artists are Sallie Martin (which is known as the Mother of Gospel), Kirk Franklin, Thomas A. Dorsey, Mahalia Jackson (which is known as the Queen of Gospel), James Cleveland, Marvin Sapp, Yolanda Adams, Mary Mary, The Clark Sisters, and many more gospel artists.
