Fusion Jazz

Jazz Fusion

Jazz Fusion is a genre of music that combined jazz with other genres of music. Some also call it psychedelic jazz. Other genres included funk, blues, rock, and R&B. This genre within was first highlighted in the 1960’s by Jazz artists that were doing something more complex and bring jazz to other genres that were popular at the time.

One of the most influential artists of within this sub-genre of jazz was Miles Davis, who was the major artist within the genre as whole during his time and even now.  Modern jazz is said to be very much influenced by him. Some of most popular songs would be considered regular jazz like “Blue in Green” and “So What”. During the late 60’s early 70’s you will hear more of his jazz fusion work in songs like “Miles Runs the Voodoo Down” and “Rated X”. “Rated X” is a song that sounds a lot like free jazz, but has the structure to it that makes it more jazz fusions. His jazz fusion work has more electric instruments and a more funk sound.
