Funkadelic

Funk music originated in the 1960’s as the beginnings of the R&B era began to fade. Funk Music is known to be a combination of R&B, jazz, and soul. Some characteristics of funk include instruments like the bass and the electric guitar. This is the type of music that was seen on Don Conrelli’s Soul Train and made people want to get up and dance to the music. Artists like James Brown, George Clinton, Kool & Gang and more took the world by storm at the end of the 60’s before the genre of Disco came into play. Funk music was unique because it became a form of resistance to the injustices that were happening to black people in America. Songs like “I’m Black and I’m Proud,” helped push blacks through the issues that the faced daily from racism and discrimination. We can still here funk music today in remakes of Blaxxploitation films, in our homes or even on the radio. These artists and their forms of resistance have made a major impact on music today!
