Dear Doc,

I did not know what to expect from this class. This semester was very challenging for me and I just wanted to say that this class definitely lifted my spirits with all of the music that I was exposed to. I appreciate your enthusiasm while teaching the class and would also like to thank for your patience with me this semester. I realize that there was a lot more I could have done to show how interested I was in the topics, but I want it to be known that I did enjoy digging deeper into the origins of all of the genres discussed. What I realized about this course was the fact that it was designed to not only educate African Americans about their musical culture, but to also realize that these genres would not be here if it weren’t for the pioneers of black music and entertainment throughout time. I am glad that I was able to be apart of a class that offers so much knowledge in a subject that I love dearly.

See you next semester!
