Erykah Badu

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGxxdas5byo[/embedyt]Erykah Badu was born Erica Abi Wright on February 26, 1971, in Dallas, Texas. Being raised by her actress mother, Badu was constantly exposed to the world of art. She attended a magnet arts school, Booker T Washington High School, where her singing, dancing, and acting skills were properly nourished and cultivated. After she graduated from Grambling State University in Louisiana (as a theatre major, quantum physics minor) , she began working on her music demo tape.

In 1996, Badu signed to Kendra Entertainment with whom she released her debut album “Baduizm”. One of her hit songs and must notable still today is “On and On”, the smooth melodies mixed with her nice soulful sound pleased her listeners.  In that same year she became pregnant with her first child by the artist Andre 300 of Outkast and dropped another album featuring her hit song “Tyrone”. In 1999 she collaborated with The Roots group. There song, “You Got Me”, won her first Grammy of many more to come. In 2000 she released her third album “Mamas Gun” a long with songs to a soundtrack fir Spike Lee’s “Bamboozled”.
