A Review of "That's all Folks"
By: Nia Webb
Before reading”That’s All Folks” I had a small understanding of the history and creation of Folk Music. I thought that it was music made by the old white man, but after reading I have an understanding that Folk music was created by African Americans during a time of struggle and perseverance. During the slave era, Folk Music was the way slaves created a sense of unity and identity after all that had been taken from them. Folk music has many forms but it’s most popular is based around words and uplifting phrases about the African American experience. Today Folk Music is expressed just as it was decades ago, in ways that uplift the African American community and give hope that through all the struggles we will continue to overcome.
