Student Critique

I liked that in the post the author appreciates the impact Lauryn Hill had on modern-day hip-hop, especially for women. The creator talks about how the album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” referenced a lot of topics younger generations think about. I do wish that they mentioned the negative parts of Lauryn Hill like her inattentiveness in regards to concerts. Many people find it disrespectful that she seems to not care about concertgoers, their time, and their money. Overall, I believe the creator of this post did an amazing job.

This student showed a major amount of knowledge about Kendrick Lamar. From the detailed history of his background to a breakdown of his albums, this post gave me an evident insight into Kendrick Lamar. I liked that this critique even taught me things about Kendrick that I didn’t know before. My favorite part of this post was that they connected his music to both spiritual and political beliefs. I believe that is important for musicians to draw from their real-world to their music, so I really appreciated this post.

This post while highlighting a lot of the phenomenal work that Rihanna has done in her life time, I feel does not encapsulate all that she has done. As of late, Rihanna has leaned more into social advocacy, and Black beauty creations. As well as this, Rihanna has taken a lot of time to focus on her family and has not released an album since 2016. I think the author of this post should have dove into why Rihanna no longer creates albums as it would have rounded out the post. As is, I feel the post is biased, less informative, and more fan girlish. In summary, while this is a good post, it could have used more.
