Earth Wind and Fire is an American band that has spanned the genres of many musical styles. They were one of the most popular American bands in the 1970s. In Chicago, Illinois in 1970, Earth Wind and Fire was founded by Maurice White. The band has received 20 Grammy nominations, been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and has sold over 90 million records, making them one of the best selling bands in American History. Earth Wind and Fire are known for its horn section, energetic and interactive stage shows, and the contrast between its members’ vocals. As seen in their live show at the Greek Theatre in Chicago, they exhibited their high energy performances, accompanied by live instrumentation. The band uses musical elements from funk, jazz, R&B, and soul. Earth Wind and Fire was the first African American band to sell out Madison Square Garden and acquired much success as a group.
