Despite misogyny from the rap industry, women in hip hop during the 2000’s emerged as powerful, multidimensional, empowering forces. They refused to allow the industry to define what kind of artists they would be.
These women heavily inspired the culture, fashion, dance, and female empowerment movement of the time.
They continue to pave the way for women in hip hop today, as today’s artists refuse to be told what to do and who to be.
