Disco is more than a genre, for many it was a lifestyle that emerged in the late 60’s and the 70’s. It is a mix between soul, funk, pop, and EDM. It was also displayed as vibrant colors, music, and dance culture. The lifestyle of the music was to be carefree and for women to stop living in patriarchy. It was marketed towards the black queer community. The music can be described as high energy, fast pace, and catchy.
Prominent artists are Donna Summers, Gloria Gaynor, and Earth, Wind, and Fire. They led the Disco movement and inspired plenty of women to be confident in themselves and for everyone to be comfortable in their own skin.
