Disco

Disco

Disco is a popular genre that was a big part of the nightclub scene during the 1970s. It first appeared in the late 1960s and was popularized by marginalized communities particular the black queer community in the underground scene. Disco music was primarily listened to when dancing and it could be the same track that would be playing hours on end. It was made up of fast tempo, high energy music and a classic verse-chorus structure that was catchy. There were many popular disco artists but there those who had mega-hits during the time.

Donna Summers

Donna Summers could be considered the queen of disco, she came out with many disco hits during the time period. Her biggest hit would be”I Feel Love”,  which original version was 8 minutes long, which was great for DJ’s to play the hit all night long.

Gloria Gaynor was one the leading ladies of disco, who had some hits within the nightclub scene. Her first hit would be “Never Can Say Goodbye” and then the famous “I Will Survive”.
