Derrick May was born on April 6th, 1963 in Belleville, Michigan. From an early age, he developed a passion for music. By age 13, Derrick formed a DJ trio with his classmates called Deep Space Soundworks, which existed solely to present music at parties and clubs within the area. After high school, the three young men of this trio were able to open their own individual record labels. Derrick May began his production career through the release of his record called “Nude Photo” in 1987. This record, along with others, helped start the Detroit techno music scene which quickly made its way around, gaining popularity across the world. Later in his life, derrick spent his time mentoring other popular artists including Carl Craig and Stacey Pullen. Derrick May continues to follow his passion and can be found performing internationally many weekends!
