Classical Music


Although portrayed as only a European genre of music, Classical music is a piece of art that comes from the African Culture. There were many African Americans amongst slave states who were trained to compose Classical music. Classical music is very distinct for its melodic tone. The instruments that in this genre of music consists of oboe, clarinets, bassoons, clarinets, and the fortepiano.

Some African American classical music composers include William Grant Still, Florence B Piece, Margaret Bonds, George Walker, and Samuel Coleridge – Taylor.

I think it’s important to focus on the contribution that African Americans made to music, that is usually associated with people of the White race. It shows how diverse African Americans are in the music industry, and also accredits people for efforts and contributions that go unknown at times.
