What Makes this Contemporary and its Impact

Drums, electric guitar, solos, faster tempo. The song could easily be misinterpreted for R&B, but the lyrics are explicitly Christian based. This misinterpretation made it easier to crossover to other musical genres like R&B. Like contemporaries of the traditional gospel movement, the contemporary gospel was met with criticism too, but still widely accepted in the gospel community.
