Artist Spotlight: ‘Kingfish’ of the Mississippi Delta Blues

A Brief History of the Blues:

The origins of the blues start in the Mississippi Delta around the early 20th century. Moreover, the Delta Blues helped to pioneer the way for more traditional blues styles that transcended in the 1920s and 30s.

Clarksdale, Mississippi native, Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram, is a 25-year-old blues singer. The Grammy and 7-time Blues Music Awards (BMA) winner, serves as a clear intersection of modern blues and Delta blues. As stated by PBS NewsHour, “Christone “Kingfish” Ingram represents the next generation of American blues artists” (https://www.christonekingfishingram.com//kingfish-home/).

After releasing his debut album entitled ‘Kingfish’ in 2019, his prominence and impact on the blues genre soon became evident. Inspired by the mastery of previous blues artists like BB King and Muddy Waters, Kingfish paves his own way in the genre.

Kingfish has released three albums thus far, with his latest being recorded just last year in front of a live audience at the famous United Kingdom club, ‘The Garage.’ The album features 17 songs, with some tracks from his previous studio albums and two new songs, “Midnight Heat” and “Mississippi Night.”

The young blues artist is a force to be reckoned with through his powerful voice, lyrics, and excellent guitar skills. Just like his musical heroes, he is steadily influencing the blues.
