Uncovering Jazmine Sullivan

Jazmine Sullivan is an American Singer- Songwriter from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her genre of music is mostly R&B but she also has music in hip hop, pop, soul, and reggae. She was discovered by artist, Missy Elliot. She co-wrote songs for many artist like Jenifer Hudson.  Her songs led her to many grammy nominated awards especially for her song “Need you bad” which reached the top of the music charts. Her whole life she grew up singing and when she was younger she got to perform on Showtime at the  Apollo. She is a well known artist all around America with 4 albums out so far.

Early life

Jazmine Sullivan was born on April 9, 1987 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was raised by Pam Sullivan along with her two siblings. Her mother worked as a backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. She first started singing in her church choir. Gospel music has a big influence on how she sings today. When she was eleven years old she performed at the Apollo Theater singing Accept What God Allows. Introducing her was Steve Harvey which is a known celebrity. As a teenager music was a big influence in her life so she decided to go to a High School for Creative and performing Arts. At the age of fifteen she was signed to Jive records. She recored an album but it was never released by the label.

Albums

She has 4 albums released so far. They are called Fearless, Love me back, reality show, and Heaux Tales. She collaborated with a number if big name artists.  Her newest album Heaux Tales featured songs with Anderson .Paak, H.ER., and Ari Lennox. During the time of giving fans news on upcoming album she also released that she will performing at the super bowl. This boosted her sales and this album became the most talked about. 

Awards

Jazmine Sullivan is such a talented artist. She has been nominated for many awards. She was nominated for three American music awards, six BET awards, one billboard women in music, fifteen grammy awards, five NAACP Image awards, and eight soul train music awards. So far in her music career she has won two BET awards and one billboard women in music award. 

Hit Songs

Jazmine has gained recognition for a lot of her songs. Sullivans most hit song is off her new album called “Pick up your feelings”  which you can listen on many streaming services. She is also known for her song “Bust your windows ” which is when I first heard her music. The song has over 49 million views on YouTube. Also her song Insecure was a theme song for the show called Insecure as well. The song featured Bryson Tiller and they both got nominated for two awards from that song.
