Audra McDonald

Audra McDonald, born july 3rd, 1970 in West Berlin, Germany, is an American singer and actress.  She is a classically trained Soprano, and earning a Bachelor of Music from the Julliard School of Music in 1993.  She is largely known for her work on the Broadway stage, portraying Bess in George Gershiwn’s “Porgy and Bess”, Sarah in “Ragtime,” and various other roles. She is the only person to earn a Tony award in all four acting categories. In addition to her work on Broadway, McDonald has performed in many roles in television and movies, including Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Sesame Street, and The Good Fight. She has performed and recorded various concert albums in conjunction with many famous symphony orchestras. McDonald’s most recent role is in Broadway’s “Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune”, where she play Frankie.

Audra McDonald earned a Grammy Award (Best Classical Album, Best Opera Recording) in 2008 for her performance of Kurt Weill’s “Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny” with the LA Opera.
