Born Egbert Dawkins III in 1979 to Panamanian parents, Aloe Blacc developed a passion for music beginning with trumpet in the third grade. Blacc soon broadened his horizons to mastering various other instruments; cello, piano, bass guitar, horns, and many percussion instruments.
His music incorporated many of these instruments in songs he wrote for other major artist and later for his own songs. He launched his solo career in 2003 with music influenced from top Soul artist and Swedish Disco music. With several collaborations with artist from many genres he created his own sound and built upon it.
