The Temptations....

Much like a lot of great talent the temptations were formed in Detroit Michigan.  Originally named the Elgins the Temptations consisted of  Eddie Kendrick’s, Paul Williams, Otis Williams, Al Bryant and Melvin. Throughout the years the member of the temptations shifted but there award wining sound never did.  They won the Grammy for bust R&B group in 1969 and 1972. This newly signed Motown group went on shows like Ed Sullivan with the Supremes which increased there appeal.  There complex harmonies along with well thought out dance routines help them win the hearts of many.  To this day the Temptations are one of the most respected groups of authentic R&B.

Anita Baker......

Anita Denis Baker was born on January 26 1958 in  Toledo Ohio but grew up in Detroit Michigan- the hub of talent for African Americans. Like all great singers she grew up singing in the church, but instead of continuing her education she began pursing a career in singing.  Her first solo album sold more than 300,000 copies and charted for more than a year.  Her album Rapture in 1986 won her two Grammy with two hit singles ” Sweet Love” and ” You Bring Me Joy.”  To this Anita is revered as one of the top vocalist and performed bring texture, and soul to each song.

Summer Walker.....

Summer Jarjani Walker was born on April 11 1996.  Started out in the cleaning business while striping in Atlanta. She released her mix tape Last Day of Summer with the single Girls Need Love in 2018.  The success of her album lead her to become #8 R&B artist worldwide across apple music.  After he debut album Summer walker won a BET Soul Train Music Award for best New artist. A lot of her songs resonate with this generation especially in regards to womanhood and life.

The biggest difference between R&B then and now is the ability to tell a story and have real feeling behind what was being sung. Take Anita Baker for example when you hear her sing” With all my heart I love you baby,” You can feel that, the tone of her voice, soulfulness of the words combined with the ability to story tell would transcend the listener. Now there are some artist who do have this ability but the majority of popular singers today don’t have that gift.
